Spring Cleaning

Spring is an exciting time of the year, winter's growl is dying down to a whimper, and everything outside is beginning to look alive again. I happen to be one of those people who enjoys winter, but by the time spring comes I'm ready for the warmth of the sun and the color popping up everywhere outside. After having the house shut up for the winter, the new season makes me want to open up again, and in my house like many, that means it's about time for spring cleaning.

When that beautiful weather rolls around, it's time to dedicate a day or even a weekend to breathing life back into your home with a deep clean. For me, this means pulling everything out and washing/vacuuming/dusting behind and under everything. This always helps me with those pesky spring allergies by ridding my home of dust and pollen that has settled.

This is also the perfect time to start transitioning your wardrobe for the changing seasons. If it's a beautiful sunny day, you can put the drying rack outside and let all of your air dry only items take on that "spring air" the kind that doesn't come from a bottle and soak up the sun.

In the kitchen I each cabinet and drawer one at a time and take everything out to clean it. While the cabinets and drawers are empty, I make sure to clean those out too. If your upper cabinets don't reach the ceiling, be sure to clean on top of those too, it's amazing how much dust accumulates up there that you never notice.

Lastly, I take advantage of this time to brighten up my home by pulling out my spring decorations; I transition my subdued winter pallet for one of the bright, colorful spring variety. After all the hard work is done, I settle in with all the windows open play with my dogs (who are sure to spread their fur and dander immediately) and enjoy the transformation of the fresh spring air.
