It may or may not feel like it, depending on where you live, but spring is here! The start of a new season is always a little refreshing to me. It's a great opportunity to look at my current routine to see what I like, and what I can improve on.

Meal prep is an important part of my routine. I am always running around doing something, and I leave the house so early in the morning, that I don't have time to make a big breakfast or to put together my lunch then. My easy go to all winter long for breakfast was to just bring some instant oatmeal or a granola bar with me.

As someone concerned with living a healthy lifestyle, it's been bugging me that I eat a processed packaged breakfast on weekdays. With a new season beginning, I decided it was time for a new breakfast as well. The tough part is that is still needed to be quick and easy to grab on my way out the door.

Enter, overnight oats. I have been hearing about this trend for awhile now but hadn't quite jumped on board yet. You can make them with almost any ingredients you like, leave them in a jar overnight, and grab them in the morning. Just as easy as my pre-packaged breakfast, but far healthier.

Not one for following recipes closely, I looked at a few, then eyeballed it making it my own. I added some rolled oats to a small mason jar (about 1/3 full) then I added bananas, chia seeds, peanut butter, and almond milk until the jar was almost full. I added a little bit of maple syrup for a little extra sweetness, put the cap on, shook it all up, and set it in the fridge.

Irish or not, parades and parties are celebrating the holiday, and everyone is invited to take part. While it can be easy to focus on all the fun for adults you can make the holiday fun for the family as well.

In our house, I like to borrow a trick from my kindergarten teacher. In the day's leading up to the 17th, I tell stories to my kiddos about mischievous leprechauns. These leprechauns may make small messes in their rooms, or kitchen while looking for their pot of gold. When they find the pot of gold, they leave a little treat behind to apologize for the mess they've made.

As you may have guessed, on the morning of St Patrick's Day my kids will come downstairs to find the kitchen and a few of their toys amiss. They also find waiting for them a treat (chocolate coins if I remember to get them) and excitedly jabber about the silly leprechaun all morning.

Then for dinner, I make the same thing that I grew up eating on this holiday each year, Corned Beef and Cabbage. Some are excitedly marking the days on the calendar, some are worrying how they'll keep the kids occupied for a week without school, and some are wishing they still got spring break. Regardless of where you fall on that list, it's that time of year.

Get ready for your gym to start filling up with folks taking advantage of the last days and weeks to get that winter body beach ready. It's an excellent time to join the crowd and get back to the gym if you've been neglecting that new year's resolution. Spring break, whether you get a real one or not is a superb time to get out of your winter funk.

Beat the winter blues any way you can. If you don't have any time off work, plan a fun weekend road trip, or a stay-cation to get yourself feeling refreshed. Head to the spa, or plan a home spa day. After a couple of days or even hours of pampering yourself, you'll be ready tackle real life with renewed energy.

In both new and long-term relationships, it can be hard to know the right kind of gift to get someone for the most romantic holiday of the year.

The adage may be that "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, " but I think this applies to everyone, men, and women. Who doesn't enjoy a well-prepared meal? Instead of stressing out which restaurant is right, or trying to get a reservation, why not stay home?

I'm not talking stay in in your PJ's and order a pizza, but cooking a romantic dinner at home. Treat it like you're going out, get dressed up. Set the table, light some candles, open a nice bottle of wine, and make a personalized playlist. With the right effort, you can make your dining room or kitchen feel more special than any restaurant.

Plan to make a special dinner that you and your partner will both love. Whether you cook for your date, or you both decide to spend the night cooking together, you're bound to have more fun than you would have sitting in a crowded restaurant.

So does the groundhog. This Thursday, February 2nd (Groundhog Day) the groundhog will come out to see whether or not it sees its shadow.

Groundhog day is a holiday celebrated in the United States, where we all eagerly wait for a groundhog to let us know whether we can expect an early spring or not. The groundhog looked to is named Punxsutawney Phil, and resides in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania. This year will be his 131st Groundhog day.

When Phil emerges from his burrow on the morning of February 2nd, he is either going to see his shadow or not see his shadow. So what does it mean? If it is a sunny morning and he sees his shadow, he will return to his burrow to sleep for six more weeks of winter. If it's a cloudy day, and he doesn't see his shadow, folklore says we can look forward to early spring.

After the excitement of the holidays and the beginning of a new year, the rest of winter just seems to drag on. Have a little fun with it, think about the things that make winter beautiful and fun.

One of my favorite things about winter is the snow. We don't have much of it out my way this year, so I thought I would bring a little snow and winter beauty to my kitchen. I love playing in the snow, and building snowmen, if I can't have one in my yard, why not have one on my counter.

	Supplies:

	• Kapoosh (mine is a Tall Hex-Connex)

	• Scissors

	Directions:

	1. Cut the white construction paper to size.

	2. Wrap the white construction paper around Kapoosh and secure with tape.

	3. Cut three circles out of the black construction paper for buttons

	4. Tape or glue buttons in a row down the front of your Kapoosh

	5. Cut two strips of red construction paper.

	6. Secure one red strip around Kapoosh as a scarf.

	7. Trim one end of the other piece to look like scarf fringe, and secure at an angle under the first strip (see image).
